The sushi here is fantastic, and the prices aren't bad. We came in for dinner on a busy Friday night (not only Friday, but the Friday that the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage!), and were luckily able to secure a spot inside, as it was a warm June night. The service was prompt and polite (and they complimented my hair), and my water glass was never empty. That actually weighs heavily, as day five of a seven day beach bender necessitates hydration! We ordered a nice bottle of malbec, and for $26, was a great value! I had a seaweed salad, though no one else bit on an appetizer. The portion was a good size, and the taste was fantastic. Ordering nigiri and sashimi can be a bit confusing, since the nigiri/sashimi order sheet doesn't have a space to specify which variety you want. We just asked for a second order sheet. I was blown away by how great the sushi was, though disappointed that they didn't have any uni. Eh, I'm used to that, anyway. We had a dragon roll, rainbow roll, and spider roll, as well as various nigiri and sashimi - scallop, salmon, tuna, yellowtail - the salmon was perfect, and I wish we'd have ordered more. All-in-all, we'll definitely come back, if we're ever in Key West!

Really pleasantly surprising. We went for a quickie dinner: we needed something fresh and light for a small dinner. The gyoza was yummy and the rolls were 8 pieces and properly sized (ie bite sized and not mammoths). The rice was tender and fresh tasting. Service was prompt but not rushed. Very reasonably priced as well. Would definitely go back.

Am sitting at a table and am now in my 40th(?) minutes waiting for three rolls that were ordered within 5 minutes of our arrival. We ordered a beef tatimi appetizer which was delicious and came within roughly 5 minutes of our order, but as I write this, the rolls just arrived after a solid 40 odd minutes of waiting-and these were not exotic rolls. We arrived at 8:45/8:50 PM on a Thursday night off season (late July). Never been here before but hopefully, the quality will make up for the service. -Update. The rolls were not what we ordered and the excuse was that they were busy and had a large table?! Trying to be objective-the atmosphere is great, what I tasted was good, just try and be there when they are not busy or distracted, although I'm not sure how one might do that...

This place had great expectations however it fell short on numerous areas. Service/Server: No sooner where we seated at the sushi bar we were asked for our drink orders before we even received a menu. Too pushy through the whole experience up until it was time for the bill. Then we had to sit and wait. First round: No Stars. The server came by with a complimentary seared tuna salad for each of us. The server told us that the fish provided in the salad (see pic) varied day-to-day and that it was only given to the people that sat at the sushi bar. Go figure. RESULT: The fish had a VERY BAD fishy taste. Not on its way to turning, but already bad. I spit it out in my napkin. Hmmm. No! We ordered a sake and a beer while we reviewed our menus. You have to fill out a sushi menu check list rather than communicating directly to the sushi chef. I think this is because his English wasn't that good and it was easier for him. Not a big deal, though my husband likes to converse with the sushi chefs, so it took the fun out of the experience for him. Next up we ordered a miso soup (see pic) which was very tasty, along with a Double Spicy Tuna Roll and Florida Roll (see pics). The Double Spicy Tuna Roll was okay. My husband would get this again. I actually wanted to order a cucumber roll (where the cucumber is replaced with the rice), but upon asking the sushi chef, he only made it one way which was with artificial crab.(??) The replacement Florida Roll fell flat. It had no pop of flavor to make it memorable and was bland. In cases like this I migrate over to my husband's plate, which isn't the ideal dining experience.

By the time my husband and I joined the rest of our group for dinner at Origami, we were already over-served, having spent the better part of the afternoon lounging at Little Room Jazz Club and enjoying many wonderful mojitos. But even though my memories of the night are a little hazy, I do remember scarfing down some delicious sushi and sashimi. By my recollection, service was quite good, especially after inquiring if they had gluten free soy sauce. Our lovely server brought me an unopened bottle of Tamari to use - a nice touch, and very much appreciated. For my money, Origami is definitely a winner. If you're in Key West and craving sushi, this is the place to go.

This is probably the best valued sushi in Key West in regards to pricing and quality. The portions are a bit on the smaller side so if this is your dinner order accordingly. There is seating both inside and outside I would choose the outside my next visit the inside is a little cramped unless you can grab at seat at the sushi bar. The double jalapeño tuna rolls were tasty as well as the shrimp tempura roll. The service was okay and the prices were inline with what you'd expect in Key West. I'd stop back in for a light appetizer or lunch but would consider other alternatives for dinner.

Meh. It was okay but I had much higher expectations, considering the price and location.

Amazing sushi. Try the double spicy tuna. Staff was great. So fresh. Not the staff, the sushi. Maybe a little pricey but worth it. Be sure to try something different.

Good sushi, but they forgot half my order and the chef could not follow simple instructions. I came in with my husband who ordered a few rolls and sake.... We shared a gyoza which was great (fried) and waited for our miso soup which never came! I ordered some nigiri and a tuna roll (I'm allergic to wasabi and requested it be left off all my items, the waitress made sure to write those instructions in large print for the chef). When our main items came my white tuna was missing (I was told it would come later.. It didnt!). My tuna roll also had wasabi all over the inside. My husband loved his food so thats a thing. I enjoyed what little they got right... Which wasnt much.

This is a little hidden gem. The staff is the best and so nice. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi is made fresh. Don't waist your time anywhere else. Great restaurant.

My fiance and I went here for dinner for my birthday. The place was empty so we took our seats inside. The waitresses were very pleasant and quick. The price were great. I got 2 rolls and both were great. My fiance got the chicken teriyaki and he said it was perfection. We tried going here again for lunch but they weren't open and we were quite sad.

Delicious sashimi, some fantastic rolls and stunningly wonderful specialty rolls like the Florida and Caesar Roll. Although the fish tastes fresh, I'd like to come back when they are flush with local catch. All employees are very responsive and pleasant which means they care about the product and customers. I recommend this place for sushi.

Sushi and Sashimi is amazing, my favorite, the Volcano! We ate here twice during our weeks stay.

Great sushi. Chef Kiyoto is funny and make great sushi. Conch was soo yummy and bigger cut! Yellowtail was also delicious and "melting in your mouth" texture. Can't wait to go back.

Excellent Sushi conveniently located off Duvall Street in Key West. Pricey but worth it. See photos. Rated 4 star because of value of sushi for cost.

The service is just awful! I went there one night and I admit it was kind of busy. I was ordering something to go and it took a while. Finally, I got my food and started to leave, and I decided to check if all was there. This people didn't give me the rice that goes with my food and didn't even tell me anything. When I went to ask for my rice they answered in a very rude way that they didn't have any more rice they and they did not want to give me any of the one they have saved for the sushi. It is the same rice. And they made it sound like it didn't matter to give me just chicken when I paid for a whole meal.

Excellent sushi, sashimi and main courses! Great value for Key West, especially for the quality of the food and exceptional service!! We ate outside for dinner and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to go back again! Enjoy!!

At the Atlantic end of Duval in an area with other restaurants. I enjoy their tempura which is a fair price for what you get. The sushi is okay! You can sit inside or be outside where they have about 6 tables. I like outside because it is tropical and you have the parrots out there! Not a place I go allot but I go 2-3 times a year. For Key West I would call it a bargain.

This place was great. I would highly recommend sweet shrimp (succulent and delicious), the tuna, salmon and yellow tail. Avoid the cooked meat, stick with dish, best place around and best sweet shrimp ever! Friendly staff, made for a very nice meal!

We went here after being snubbed by 9-5-1. Serendipity! The owner is a doll and the food is good standard sushi fare! Filled our bellies and enjoyed the funky classically Key West atmosphere! Try the salmon tataki and shumai.

We're long time sushi fans...expected better than average maki for the price, but were disappointed in some of their speciality items. Sushi was okay. Very short of staff, seemed like one or two staff were trying to service the entire restaurant. Must say that once we got our wait staff's attention, she was very engaging. Willingly brought us a better cut of hamachi when we were disappointed in the initial serving. Trying hard but fell a little short.

I have always loved this place. It is by far the best sushi I have ever had, anywhere. Now I haven't had sushi in Japan or New York but I have had a lot. We will always go back here when we have the craving.

A little pricey, good choice of rolls, not too much a fan of so many rolls with cream cheese. Small restaurant but has plenty of outside seating. Sushi comes fast but fast doesn't always mean better, rolls come out a little on the loose side. The tuna sandwich was really good. The Caesar roll really good. Volcano roll good also...

Origami Sushi is awesome. My cousin and I went to Key West for a week vacation and we decided to stop by this Japanese restaurant for dinner. They have a fairly small but nice Patio dinning and I recommend people to sit outside if the weather permits. We ordered enough for both of us, and when the waitress brought our sushi out, it was a bless. They featured our sushi on this hand-crafted and nicely finished "sushi boat". Everything fits perfectly on it and at some point I didn't want to eat my sushi because it was such a nice art work :) The sushi itself tasted fine and fresh. I recommend if you want something small but refreshing, you can stop by this place. The price is fair. I wouldn't say it is very expensive for the quality of the food they provide you; for both my cousin and I spent about $180 included tips for our dinner visit :)

My husband and I went here on a Saturday night (boat races weekend so it was slightly busier than usual). We ordered the shrimp only appetizer which included 4 smaller than usual sized tempura pieces. It was delicious but $12 and does not come with rice. We also got the miso soup ($2.50) and was just OK. I ordered the uni sushi (sea urchin) for $3.50 a piece and smelt roe for $2.00 a piece, both of which were delicious. My husband got the "bagel" sushi roll, which is their version of the "Philly roll" for $7.00, 8 pieces. Really good food, BUT service was very slow. There were several long waiting periods between (1) sitting and getting our drinks, (2) getting our drinks to getting our food order, (3) getting our appetizer to getting our soup, (4) getting our soup to getting our sushi, (5) finishing up all the food and waiting for the check. If you have two hours to spare and lots of patience then you will enjoy this restaurant. The waitress also poured water into my husbands half full sprite. Although she did apologize she didn't get him another sprite leaving him to drink a very watered down sprite. I noticed the owner looking at us and our expression waiting behind the sushi counter. He then looked at our waitress with an apologetic face.

Ate here last night. Service was great. Fish was great. It was a bit more expensive than we anticipated, but we are in key west. Sit at the sushi bar if you can.

Great Sushi, I'm not sure why other people claim the portions are small, I find them to be traditionally sized and quite adequate. The staff is very friendly and the food is consistently very good. I wish they were open for lunch, but it's their business not mine, so I think there is probably a reason behind it. I've eaten at every Sushi restaurant here and Origami is the best!

We went here on one of our first dinner nights in Key West. We try to find the hidden gems and this is certainly one. Excellent atmosphere and great service on one of their busiest nights. Our server recommended sharing one if their sushi dinners and getting an additional roll which was excellent advice as two dinners would have been way too much. Fresh and delicious, thus is some o the best sushi and sashimi I have ever had. Definitely a good stop when in KW.

Origami is my "go to" for sushi on the island and when people ask me to take them to a local resturant. Origami is in my vote the best sushi on the island. They are very traditional when it comes to sushi. Most sushi places smother their plates with add ons *cream cheese, sauces, tons of mayo* and masks the taste of the actual fish ordered. Origami brings the freshest and the best tasting sushi for your dollar. The owner always greets you with a very vocal "Irashai!" The decor is humble, with seating inside and outside. I recommend sitting at the bar, watching the owner and his chefs work is a wonderful thing to watch. My only gripe about Origami is that the service is inconsistent. I have nights where I will tip half of my bill due to outstanding and great service, where some nights its difficult to get your drinks refilled. It seems like the busier it is, the worse the service becomes. That can hurt any business, but I keep coming back again and again. The quality of the food makes up for the "bad" nights that any business is sure to have. I can tell you that in the 15 years I have been dining at Origami, there is not ONE time that I have sent back, been dissatisfied, or let down with my food choice.

The udon was so salty that I could feel my arteries constricting...and the portion size was disappointingly small for the price paid.

We had a very good experience. We sat outside and listened to the parrots talk. We thought the food and service was great. We especially enjoyed the tuna "sandwich" We will go again!

We ended up hear desperate for some fresh fish not fried, sauced, breaded etc. But the service was very poor. I ordered the Sushi Dinner the waitress dropped the food and ran away not telling me which sashimi was which or what the rolls were. What was givne to me was different than on the menu. She never refilled our water. And basically didn't pay us much attention at all. It was late and near closing but we weren't asking for much. Used the bathroom and the water scalded my hand. Definite room for improvement here. Also I didn't find the fish that different or unique than I would anywhere further away from the ocean or where I live.

  • Melissa B.

Service was great, dessert was great. Speciality roll was very small for the price, didn't actually taste the eel. Not enough actual crab in the crab avocado salad although the salad was good. Soft Shell Crab app was good. Green Tea ice cream pound cake was amazing. I found the parrots from the other restaurant to be annoying during the meal.

My favorite sushi place in Key West. The lobster roll is incredible! I also like the shrimp tempura roll. Husband likes the Florida roll. Much more reasonably priced than Ambrosia. Also, they don't try and pass off fake crab meat as the real deal like they do at Ambrosia. Love to sit outside, have a Kirin, have some sushi and finish with green tea ice cream. No, it's not the best sushi I've ever had (that would be in California or Hawaii for me) but it is good. If you or someone you're with dislikes birds (like my best friend) then don't sit outside at Origami as there are parrots roosting. I'm not sure how Serena W. spent $180 for 2 people; that is out-of-control! We've gone with 4 people and spent less than that. Usually we spend around $80 with tip for two.

The environment is cozy and the store owner is really friendly and patient. Food is yummy and really big sized. This restaurant certainly deserves a four star or more.

We've eaten here many times and it's always very good.Pricey, but, hey,it's Key West.the box dinner that I get every third time I eat there has gone up from $25 to $32 in,a couple of years. Sushi is always fresh.Tonight the service was excellent, but it's not always that good. As others have noted, the decor leaves a lot to be desired, particularly when you're paying top price. All in all,one of our favs

Worst sushi experience ever!! Terrible rolls, what place runs out of rice? Also, bad service (slow and lack of responsiveness). Shameful and not wishing this experience on anyone else. Tourist trap x 10000. Do yourself a favor and go to Caroline's. you'll thank me later.

Origami is my Key West favorite when I'm hankering for sushi. The chefs and staff are all an added bonus! It's a comfortable setting, great decor, and friendly staff. The ceasar roll is my favorite. I recommend sitting at the bar, Kyoto (the chef and owner), adds a great touch to the meal.

Absolutely horrendous service. We just ordered dumplings, edamame and steamed rice. 1 hour later, we we're still waiting for our food. At no point did our server came to check on us or apologize for the wait I finally called our waitress over and the excuse they gave us was that there was a large table next to us and they were backed up. We ended up canceling the order and grabbed food elsewhere. Very disappointed.

Chicago has a tremendous selection of restaurants including a gazillion great sushi places, so I am often disappointed when I eat out in other cities. I decided to try Origami based on the Yelp reviews and I was very pleased. We didn't even go inside the building - why would we coming from Chicago in February? We got what was probably the worst outdoor table - near the AC unit - but it was OK. The atmosphere was very nice with the landscaping partitioning us off from the rest of the shops in the "mall". (Not sure what to call it - outdoor galleria? Anyway it was nice to be away from the busy street.) We had the Tempura appetizer which was perfect and a selection of maki rolls including the crazy eel and a double spicy tuna. They were beautiful and tasted great - maybe a little too much mayo on some. The double spicy roll was very hot which I liked but you should consider your own preference on that. A better beer selection would have been nice. The prices were comparable to Chicago - maybe even a little lower. The waiter was friendly and very attentive without being intrusive. I saw him walk to our area a few times just to see if anyone needed anything and then leave without bothering anyone. Overall, a great experience in paradise. Highly recommended.

I will start by saying choices in KW for sushi are very limited. I had friends visiting throughout my month stay on KW and they wanted sushi so we went here. First the positives, the dining area is outside on a cute patio with twinkle lights and it does have a nice ambiance. However, there was one server and one host type of person working the entire outside and inside seating area, therefore service was not up par with most other restaurants on KW. We asked for a table for 4 and it was set for 2; it then took several requests to get the other 2 menus and place settings. Our server was nice and apologetic but took forever to get our orders in, have refills on water/drinks, and get essentials like plates, etc. My friends husband did not even receive the entree he actually ordered but due to the amount of time that it took to get it, he ate it anyway. The food was just ok. Nothing special. Average sushi at best. The Volcano Roll was the best sushi roll we had there so I will say that was good but everything else was just blahh and nothing to write home about. With so many excellent dining choices in Key West this place is not worth the trip and is too much on the pricy side for mediocre sushi and weak service.

  • Will N.

My mother always taught me to say something nice, so I will admit the Miso soup was okay. The sushi was average, the prices were so-so, and it took 2 hours after we ordered for our food to arrive. They had small space heaters, but they did not offer to move any of them closer to us. While the Czech waitress was friendly, she was slow with drink refils and made no apologies for the wait, just that it would be out shortly over and over. A small group may have had better luck, but I would never reccomend them for a decent sized group. I would also have expected better fish from something on the ocean. The quality was very similar to what I regularly get in Ohio. If I had to do it over, I would have gone for the all you can eat option at Beni Hana for the same price.

  • Elizabeth B.

Do not go here. This sushi is worse than anything I have ever had, and that is saying a lot considering I have had sushi in Omaha. The rolls were poorly constructed, low quality, and over priced. Bottom line: don't waste your money here, It is not worth it.

Miso Soup, salad, tuna sashimi, spicy tuna roll and Suzy roll all good. Tuna was very fresh and not stringy (as if been frozen.). 3.5 stars total.

The tempura was thick and oily, not light and crispy as it should be, and the sushi was just ok.

Top of the line, best sushi in Key West. You all got to try it. Though sometime they run out of rice.!!! Lol... but Carina the waitress just makes it all better with her beautiful smile. :-)...

Wow. First night in Key West after a rather heinous 12 hour travel day. I was craving tempura and the place I was looking at had an hour long wait. Origami was right outside out condo, and I figured we'd try it out. I'm very glad we did. Some places in Key West have less than stellar service in terms of attentiveness, but the server was right on it. We had drinks within moments of sitting down, and the server was well informed about the menu and helpful in making suggestions. We had sushi, tempura, teriyaki salmon, the equivalent of beef carpacio that I can't remember the name of, and plum wine. Everything was perfect. I have a restricted diet, and Japanese is my go-to cuisine when I travel, so I've had a fair amount of it, and Origami was absolutely among the best I've ever had. I just ate a cheesesteak but I'm thinking I might wander back down there and get some scallop sushi...
